Drop Earrings

Drop earrings hang straight down and stay fairly still. Dangles swing freely from a hinge or chain. The terms get used interchangeably by nearly everyone, including jewellers, so don't read much into which one a listing uses — look at whether the piece moves.

They can be, and it's the main reason people stop wearing a pair. Weight sits at the bottom, so leverage on the lobe is worse than the gram weight suggests. Hollow construction and shorter drops solve it. If your piercings have stretched before, stay under about 4cm.
