Description

Long starburst drop earrings in 18K solid white gold, set with natural diamonds. A small half-sunburst sits on the lobe with its rays fanning upward, a line of six round diamonds falls from it, and a larger half-sunburst opens downward at the end, every ray a slim tapered baguette and small round brilliants finished in a polished point. 1.24 carats in all, IGI certified.

Care

Store them apart from other jewellery so the rays and claws don't catch; being purer gold, 18K is a little softer and marks more easily. Clean them with a little mild soap in warm water and a soft brush, then dry with a soft cloth. Put them on after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take them off for sleep and sport.

Every diamond in our fine jewelry is natural. Each one was formed deep within the earth, most more than a billion years ago, long before it was cut, polished and set in gold.

Many pieces that look like ours are made with lab-grown diamonds. Ours are not. Every piece in our fine jewelry collection is graded by the International Gemological Institute (IGI) and ships with its own certificate, so you never have to take our word for it.

Because each piece is crafted by master goldsmiths in Istanbul and comes directly to you, with no distributors or retail markups in between, we can offer natural diamonds at prices you would expect to pay for lab-grown.

Are these real diamonds?
Yes - every stone is a natural mined diamond, and the pair ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. There is 1.24 carats of diamond in total across the pair, in two grades: 0.34 carat graded E-F colour with VS to SI clarity, and 0.90 carat graded F-G colour with SI clarity - white, near-colourless stones whose small inclusions need a loupe to find. Nothing here is lab-grown and nothing is a simulant, down to the smallest stone at the tip of a ray.

How do they fasten?
Each earring sits on a straight post with a push-on butterfly back. The back carries a wide round disc that rests against the back of your lobe, so the post stays level and the drop hangs straight instead of tipping forward. Push the back up snugly before you head out - with a drop this size, that is the part worth checking.

Are these 18K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 18K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 18K is 75% pure gold, where the 14K most fine jewellery is made from is 58.5%, so this is a step up in purity and in price. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The one trade-off for the extra gold is that 18K is slightly softer than 14K, so it marks a little more easily. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big are they?
Roughly 4.5 cm from the tip of the top star to the lowest point of the bottom starburst. The bottom starburst is about 2.6 cm across and the small top star about 1.6 cm. On most ears the top star sits on the lobe and the starburst falls level with the angle of the jaw. These are approximate figures, and each pair is made by hand, so measurements can vary very slightly from one pair to the next.

How is the design made?
Two half-sunbursts face away from each other, joined by a line of six round diamonds. The small star on the lobe fans its five rays upward; the larger one at the bottom fans nine rays downward, long and short in turn. Each ray carries a slim tapered baguette and small round brilliants and ends in a polished point, and each star has a centre cluster of seven round diamonds. The baguettes throw long flashes, the rounds add the sparkle, and the line between them moves like a short chain.

Can I shower or sleep in them?
Showering is fine — solid 18K gold does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water or sweat. These sit on a post with a push-on back, so for sleeping check the back is pushed firmly up to the lobe, or take them out overnight if you move about a lot. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold: soak them now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth, paying attention to the back of the setting, where residue collects.

Will they be heavy on my ears?
They are a proper evening drop, so you will know you are wearing them. But the line of diamonds is articulated, so the starburst swings from the post rather than levering on it, and the wide disc on the back keeps the post level in the piercing. If your piercings are sensitive, give them an evening at home before a long night out.

Can I wear them every day?
You can, and the solid 18K white gold will not tarnish - but these are dressed-up earrings with pointed rays, and being purer gold, 18K is a touch softer. Take them off for sleep, sport and swimming, and keep the rays away from fine knitwear, scarves and long loose hair, which they will happily try to collect. A soak in warm, mildly soapy water and a soft brush now and then keeps the baguettes bright.

How long does this earring take to arrive?

Are these earrings good for sensitive ears?
Yes. The part that touches your piercing is sterling silver (under 18K gold vermeil), 316L surgical steel, or solid 14K gold depending on the tier you choose — all three are nickel-safe and the same metals piercing studios use for fresh piercings. The reaction most people blame on "gold earrings" is actually nickel or brass in cheap posts, and there is none in ours. If your ears are very reactive, choose the 18K gold vermeil or solid gold option and wipe the posts with a little rubbing alcohol before the first wear.
