Heart Jewelry

A heart necklace is the least subtle thing you can wear and it knows it. This collection keeps them small — double hearts, clover-hearts, pavé outlines, a heart hung beside an initial or a birthstone, plus heart hoops and studs. All 18K gold vermeil over solid sterling silver, or gold plated, in gold, silver and rose gold, from $46.

Heart Jewelry Questions

What does a heart necklace mean?

Whatever the two people involved decide, which is the honest answer. A single heart usually means love in the broad sense rather than the romantic one — plenty of people wear one for a child or a parent. Two hearts linked reads as a couple. A heart beside an initial narrows it to one person, and that's the version people actually give.

Is a heart necklace a good gift for a girlfriend?

It's the safest romantic pendant there is, and that cuts both ways — safe also means expected. If you want it to land as more than a default, the version with her initial or birthstone beside the heart does the work. If you're early enough in things that a heart feels like a statement, it probably is one.

Can you wear a heart necklace every day?

Yes, and the smaller ones are built for it. A dainty outline heart at 16 or 18 inches disappears under a collar and layers under a longer chain without tangling. The larger pavé pieces are occasion jewelry by weight, not by rule — they'll just swing more.

What length heart necklace should I choose?

16 or 18 inches. A heart pendant is compact enough to sit high without crowding the throat, and 18 is where it hangs cleanly below the collarbone. Go 14 if you're layering it as the top chain above something longer.

Do heart necklaces look childish?

Scale decides it. A large glossy heart on a thin chain reads young; a small open outline in brushed gold doesn't. If you want the symbol without the sweetness, choose an open heart rather than a solid one, and keep it under about 12mm.

Will it tarnish?

Ours is 3.0 microns of gold over solid sterling silver, which is what vermeil means. The plated version is 0.5 microns over brass, against a 0.2 micron industry standard. Industry standard vermeil is 0.2 microns and typical gold plating is 0.5. Perfume and hairspray dull it faster than time does, so put it on last.
