Every piece starts as a sketch in our Miami studio — the hoops, the chains, the name necklaces, all of it. Then it's made by hand, to order, in that same studio.
A gold initial necklace is personalization for people who don't want to spell it out. One letter or up to five, sideways or upright, plain or pavé — 18K gold vermeil at 3 microns over solid sterling silver, or gold plated. Gold, silver and rose gold, chains 14 to 20 inches, from $40.
Ours run $40 to about $140 depending on how many letters and the setting. Elsewhere the range is wide: solid 14k gold starts near $300, and the cheapest pieces on the market use plating so thin it shows copper at the letter edges within months. Letters wear faster than plain pendants because there's more edge per gram.
Real gold bonded to solid sterling silver. That is what separates vermeil from ordinary gold plating, which goes over brass. Vermeil legally requires 2.5 microns; ours is 3.0. Standard gold plating is 0.2 microns and most "gold plated" pieces are 0.5. On a letter pendant that gap matters more than on a plain disc.
Yours, usually. A partner's initial reads as a bigger commitment than people intend, and it dates badly. A child's is the exception nobody questions. Some people wear a letter for someone they've lost — the quietest version of the whole idea.
It's the easiest pendant to layer because one letter doesn't compete. Put it at 14 or 16 inches with something longer at 18 or 20. Two initials on separate chains at different lengths also works — one yours, one theirs.
16 or 18 inches for a single letter. Multi-letter pendants are wider, so 18 keeps them hanging cleanly below the collarbone rather than bunching at the throat. 14 is for layering above something longer.
They've outlasted most trends because they aren't really one. What has changed is scale — chunky block letters gave way to fine pavé and sideways settings you have to look twice at. Stacked initials, two or three on one chain, is the current version.
