What does turquoise symbolize, and which month is it for?
December. Turquoise is one of the December birthstones and one of the oldest gemstones worn anywhere — Egyptian, Persian, Tibetan and Native American cultures all treated it as protection and good fortune, and as a bridge between earth and sky. It is the one stone in your jewelry box that is not clear or white, which is reason enough. On a gold band or a gold hoop it reads warm rather than western.

Is the stone natural?
The carnelian and turquoise pieces use natural stone, which is why no two are exactly the same colour — look at the product photos and expect yours to be close, not identical. Our opal pieces use created opal, which has the same silica structure and the same play of colour as the natural stone, without the fragility. All are set in 18K gold vermeil over sterling silver.

Is this ring real gold?
Yes — it is 18K gold vermeil: a thick layer of real 18K gold bonded over solid 925 sterling silver. Vermeil is an FTC-defined standard, not a marketing word, and ours uses a gold layer at least five times thicker than standard plating. Under it is sterling silver, which is hypoallergenic and worth something on its own. You can also choose the Prestige Gold option (the same 18K gold over a brass core) if you want the look for less and wear it less often. Every vermeil piece is covered by our 2-year warranty.

What is carnelian good for?
Nerve. Carnelian is the orange-red stone people reach for when they need courage, energy and the confidence to say the thing — it has been worn by warriors, orators and, according to the legend, by Napoleon. Its colour warms everything you wear it against, which is a practical kind of confidence. Worn at the collarbone, a single bezel-set carnelian turns a white shirt into an outfit.

What does opal mean, and which month is it for?
October. Opal is the stone that cannot pick a colour — it flashes green, blue, pink and gold depending on where you stand — so it has always stood for creativity, hope and the many sides of a person. Medieval Europe thought it carried the virtue of every gemstone whose colour it showed. It suits the woman everyone describes differently.

Can I shower or sleep in my gold vermeil ring?
Sleep in it, yes. Shower in it, no. Water, sweat, perfume and hairspray are what age gold vermeil fastest, so the rule is simple: jewelry goes on last and comes off before the shower, the pool or the gym. Put it on after lotion and perfume have dried. When it is off, keep it in the pouch it came in — the pouch is anti-tarnish, not decoration. To clean it, a soft dry cloth; never jewelry dip or anything abrasive, which strips the gold. Treated this way, vermeil keeps its colour for years, which is exactly why we can put a 2-year warranty behind it.

How do I care for natural stone jewelry?
Like gold vermeil, and a little gentler. Off before water, the gym and the pool; on after perfume and lotion. Turquoise and opal are porous and soft, so they absorb oils and scratch against harder stones — store them in their own pouch, not loose with your CZ pieces. Wipe with a soft dry cloth; never soak opal, never use jewelry dip on any of them.

Why does my stone look different from the photo?
Because it grew in the ground rather than in a factory. Natural carnelian and turquoise vary in tone, veining and pattern from one stone to the next; the photo shows one stone, yours is another. The colour family, cut and setting will match; the personality will be yours alone. If you would like to see the exact stone before it ships, message us and we will send a photo.

How fast does this ring ship?
Ready-to-ship pieces leave our Miami studio within 24 hours on business days, with free standard USPS shipping on every US order — typically 2 to 4 business days door to door. Expedited shipping is available at checkout for ready-to-ship items. You get a tracking number by email when it is on its way, and it arrives in our signature gift box with a suede pouch, so if it is a gift you are already done. We ship worldwide; international delivery runs 5 to 14 business days depending on the destination, and any customs duties are the buyer's.

How do I find my ring size at home?
Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, measure the length in millimetres and match it to a US ring size chart: 49 mm is a size 5, 52 mm a 6, 54 mm a 7, 57 mm an 8, 59 mm a 9. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are largest, and make sure the strip slides over the knuckle. If you already own a ring that fits, measure its inside diameter instead — 16.5 mm is a 6, 17.3 mm a 7, 18.2 mm an 8. This ring comes in US 3 to 12, in half sizes. Between sizes? Go up — a slightly loose ring is wearable, a tight one is not.
