The necklace is okay but be warned: the pendants do NOT come off of the chain and make no mistakes with your order because they will not work with you or change anything even prior to the jewelry being assembled or shipped. They also claim in their item details that they accept returns but upon request they will deny you and say that they only accept returns for some of their other items. I messaged back and forth with Melissa, who was not the nicest, after I had a complication with 2 separate orders. After pointing out that their shop and item return policy in the descriptions are not being upheld, she offered a replacement/discount but after agreeing, I was ignored and never responded to on behalf of the shop, which was months ago at this point. It was supposed to be a gift for my sister but apparently it didn’t work out.

The stone was a bit smaller than expected and I did only receive one of the two stones but the customer service was amazing! Right away I was offered the other stone, very well communication. I would highly recommend! Thank you again💕

I had expected a different stone for my sons birth month than what I received. So I contacted them to let them know and they offered to send me a new charms that better represents my son’s birth month. I lost my son in 2020 and of all the charms I wanted to make sure that it was perfect. I’m so appreciative of their response. As a reminder when shopping for birthstones, not all companies use the exact same chart so be sure to check with your jewelry supplier to see what their list of stones are for each month.

What is my birthstone?

January garnet (deep red), February amethyst (purple), March aquamarine (pale blue), April diamond (clear), May emerald (green), June pearl or alexandrite (white or violet), July ruby (red), August peridot (light green), September sapphire (blue), October opal or pink tourmaline (iridescent or pink), November citrine or topaz (yellow), December turquoise, tanzanite or blue zircon (blue). Those are the modern American birthstone list, which is what our stones follow; if you grew up with a different chart, choose by colour.

Are the birthstones real gemstones?

They are colour-matched crystal stones, cut and set the way gemstones are, chosen because the colour is exact for each month and stays that way. We say this plainly because a real emerald or ruby in a dainty setting at this price would be a very small, very pale stone. The stones are bezel-set or prong-set in 18K gold vermeil over sterling silver and covered by the same 2-year warranty as the metal. (The natural birthstone necklace is the exception: it uses a raw, uncut stone, so every one is slightly different.)

Is this necklace real gold?

Yes — it is 18K gold vermeil: a thick layer of real 18K gold bonded over solid 925 sterling silver. Vermeil is an FTC-defined standard, not a marketing word, and ours uses a gold layer at least five times thicker than standard plating. Under it is sterling silver, which is hypoallergenic and worth something on its own. You can also choose the Prestige Gold option (the same 18K gold over a brass core) if you want the look for less and wear it less often. Every vermeil piece is covered by our 2-year warranty.

Can I add more than one birthstone for my kids?

Yes — the family designs hold up to five stones, one per person. You choose each stone by month in the order you want them set, left to right or top to bottom depending on the design. Two stones for a couple; three, four, five for a family; and if the family grows, the bar and family necklaces can usually take another.

What order should the stones go in on a mother's necklace?

Birth order, oldest first reading left to right, is the convention — and the one that is easiest to explain when someone asks. The other popular arrangement puts the mother's own stone in the centre with the children on either side. Either way, tell us the months in the order you want them set; we do not rearrange.

Can I shower or sleep in my gold vermeil necklace?

Sleep in it, yes. Shower in it, no. Water, sweat, perfume and hairspray are what age gold vermeil fastest, so the rule is simple: jewelry goes on last and comes off before the shower, the pool or the gym. Put it on after lotion and perfume have dried. When it is off, keep it in the pouch it came in — the pouch is anti-tarnish, not decoration. To clean it, a soft dry cloth; never jewelry dip or anything abrasive, which strips the gold. Treated this way, vermeil keeps its colour for years, which is exactly why we can put a 2-year warranty behind it.

Do birthstone colours fade or fall out?

The colour is in the stone, not on it, so it does not fade. Stones are held in a bezel (a rim of metal all the way round) on most of our designs, which is the most secure setting there is — nothing to snag, no prongs to bend. Treat the piece like any gold vermeil: off before water and the gym, on after perfume. If a stone ever does come loose under normal wear, the 2-year warranty covers it.

Is birthstone jewelry a good gift for mom?

It is the mother's-day gift that does not get returned. One stone per child on a necklace, ring or bracelet says the thing she would never say about herself, and it reads as a dainty piece of gold to everyone else. If you do not know the kids' exact months, ask a sibling — do not guess. It arrives in our gift box with a suede pouch.

How long does a personalized necklace take to arrive?

Most personalized orders arrive within 5 to 9 business days in the US: 3 to 5 business days for us to make it, then free USPS shipping that takes 2 to 4 days. Every personalized piece is made to order in our Miami studio — your name, stone or engraving is added before the gold goes on, so it is part of the piece, not a sticker on top. You get a tracking number the moment it ships. Because it is made for you, we cannot change spelling or size after checkout, so take one more look at the personalization before you pay. We ship worldwide; international delivery is 5 to 14 business days depending on the country, and duties are the buyer's.

What length necklace should I get?

If you are unsure, choose 18 inches — it sits just below the collarbone and works on almost everyone and with almost every neckline. 16 inches sits at the collarbone (the most popular length for dainty pendants and for layering as the top chain). 14 inches is a choker fit. 20 inches drops a few inches lower and is the right choice over a crew neck or as the bottom layer in a stack. This piece comes in 14, 16, 18 and 20 inches. If you are between lengths, go longer — a chain can always sit a little lower, and if a chain you already own comes up short, our 1, 2 and 3 inch extenders fix that in one clip.
