Description

A twelve-point starburst of natural diamonds, set in solid 14K white gold. A bright rosette of round brilliants sits claw-set inside an open-work gallery, and twelve more diamonds are set one to each radiating point, so the pendant catches light from every angle and reads far larger than its 0.36 ct. It hangs from an open woven bail on a fine cable chain, and sits just below the hollow of the throat — small enough to wear every day, bright enough to wear out.

Are these real diamonds?
Yes, every stone is a natural mined diamond, and the necklace ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. The centre rosette is 0.22 carat of round brilliants; the twelve diamonds on the points add 0.14 carat. Together they come to 0.36 carat, E–F colour and SI clarity.

Why does it look bigger than 0.36 carat?
Because of how it is built rather than any trick of the photograph. The centre rosette of round brilliants is claw-set over an open gallery, so light passes behind the stones instead of stopping at a solid back, and twelve more diamonds sit out on the points where they catch the light first. The spread reads much larger than the weight. The carat figure on this page is the real weight of the diamonds, not the size the cluster appears.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big is the pendant?
About 9 mm across the points, and roughly 13 mm from the top of the bail to the bottom — a little under half an inch. It is an everyday pendant rather than a statement piece: enough to catch the light across a room, small enough to layer or wear under a collar. Each one is made by hand, so sizes vary very slightly.

Are the diamonds on the points secure?
Yes. Each point diamond sits in its own set of claws cut down into the gold rather than perched on top, and the points themselves are short and rounded. The centre rosette is claw-set the same way. It is the standard way fine jewellery has held small stones for a century. Have the setting checked every couple of years, as you would with any stone-set piece.

Can I shower or sleep in a solid gold necklace?
A quick shower will not hurt solid 14K gold: it does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water. We still suggest taking a fine chain off to sleep, because a chain can kink or knot against a pillow over time. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold, so soak it now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry it with a soft cloth to keep the diamonds bright.

Can I wear it every day?
Yes. Solid 14K white gold does not tarnish and has no plating to wear through, and the stones are set down into the metal. Take it off for the gym, the pool and lotions, and check the clasp now and then as you would with any fine chain. The open gallery behind the cluster does collect a little lotion over time — a soft brush and warm soapy water puts it right.

Will it suit someone who does not usually wear diamonds?
It tends to, yes. The starburst outline reads as a shape first and a diamond piece second, so it sits comfortably with a jumper and jeans as well as with a dress. On a 16 or 18 inch chain it lands just below the hollow of the throat, which is the length most people reach for without thinking about it.

What length necklace should I get?
If you are unsure, choose 18 inches — it sits just below the collarbone and works on almost everyone and with almost every neckline. 16 inches sits at the collarbone (the most popular length for dainty pendants and for layering as the top chain). 14 inches is a choker fit. 20 inches drops a few inches lower and is the right choice over a crew neck or as the bottom layer in a stack. This piece comes in 14, 16, 18 and 20 inches. If you are between lengths, go longer — a chain can always sit a little lower, and if a chain you already own comes up short, our 1, 2 and 3 inch extenders fix that in one clip.
