Description

Slim pavé huggie hoops in 14K solid white gold, each carrying a hanging star of natural diamonds. The star is built from six pear-shaped petals of graduated diamonds around a single hexagon-set centre stone, with long, sharp points and tiny diamond accents between them, and it moves on a small ring under the hoop, so it catches the light every time you turn your head. 0.88 carats in all, IGI certified.

Are these real diamonds?
Yes - every stone is a natural mined diamond, and the pair ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. There is 0.88 carat of diamond in total across the pair, graded G-H colour and SI clarity: bright, near-colourless stones whose small inclusions need a loupe to find. Nothing here is lab-grown and nothing is a simulant - not even the tiny stones at the tips of the star.

How do they fasten?
Each earring is a slim hinged huggie. The diamond-set front of the hoop swings open on its hinge, the post goes through your piercing and clicks shut into the plain back arm, so there is no separate back to lose. The star hangs from a small ring under the hoop and moves freely, which is what makes it catch the light every time you turn your head.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big are they?
Big enough to be noticed, small enough to wear before dinner. On most ears the hoop sits on the lobe and runs just past its lower edge, and the whole star hangs below the lobe, roughly the size of a fingernail. Each pair is made by hand, so measurements can vary very slightly from one pair to the next.

How is the star made?
Six pear-shaped petals sit around a single round diamond in a hexagon frame. Each petal carries three diamonds graduated from larger at the centre to tiny at the tip and ends in a long, sharp point, and a small square point with one more diamond sits between each pair of petals. The petals are slightly raised, with fine polished rims, so the star has real depth rather than reading as a flat cut-out.

Can I shower or sleep in solid gold drop huggies?
A shower will not hurt them - solid 14K gold does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water or sweat. Sleeping is another matter: the hinged hoop itself is comfortable overnight, but the hanging drop can catch on a pillow or in your hair, so take them off for bed. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold, so soak them now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth - paying attention to the hinge, the little ring the drop hangs from and the back of the drop, where residue collects out of sight.

Will they pull on my piercing?
Not in the way a long chandelier does. The star is a compact piece hung close to the lobe on a short ring, and the hinged hoop sits snugly round the lobe rather than dangling from a single thin hook, so the weight stays close and the drop swings a little instead of tugging. If your piercings are sensitive, give them a day or two to get used to any new drop.

Can I wear them every day?
You can, and the solid 14K white gold will not tarnish. The star is a drop, though, so it is the part to think about: take them off for sleep, sport and swimming, and watch the points with fine knitwear and scarves, which they will happily befriend. A soak in warm, mildly soapy water and a soft brush now and then keeps the pave bright, especially behind the star where lotion collects.

Are these earrings good for sensitive ears?
Yes. The part that touches your piercing is sterling silver (under 18K gold vermeil), 316L surgical steel, or solid 14K gold depending on the tier you choose — all three are nickel-safe and the same metals piercing studios use for fresh piercings. The reaction most people blame on "gold earrings" is actually nickel or brass in cheap posts, and there is none in ours. If your ears are very reactive, choose the 18K gold vermeil or solid gold option and wipe the posts with a little rubbing alcohol before the first wear.
