Description

A snowflake of natural diamonds, set into the chain itself. Six baguettes turn outward from a single round brilliant like the blades of a pinwheel, with six more round diamonds filling the spaces between their tips. Because the chain attaches to each side of the motif rather than hanging it from a bail, the snowflake sits flat and dead centre at the base of the throat and stays there — no flipping, no drifting round to the side. In solid 14K white gold, at 0.08 ct, it is the kind of piece you put on and stop thinking about.

Are these real diamonds?
Yes, every stone is a natural mined diamond, and the necklace ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. The six baguettes are 0.04 carat, E–F colour and VS clarity; the round brilliants — one in the centre and six around the outside — are another 0.04 carat, E–F colour and SI clarity. Together they come to 0.08 carat.

Does the snowflake hang down, or sit on the chain?
It sits on the chain. This is a station necklace: the chain is attached to the left and right sides of the motif rather than threaded through a bail above it, so the snowflake lies flat and level at the centre front and stays there. It will not flip over, it will not slide round to one side, and it does not swing when you move — which is the whole reason a piece this small is made this way.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big is it?
About 7 mm across — roughly a quarter of an inch, a little wider than a grain of rice. It is deliberately small. It reads as a point of light at the base of the throat rather than as a pendant, and it layers under or over other chains without fighting them. Each one is made by hand, so sizes vary very slightly.

What is a baguette diamond?
A long rectangular step cut, with straight facets running parallel to the edges instead of the triangular facets of a brilliant. It flashes in broad, clean planes rather than sparkling, so against the round stones here you get two different kinds of light in one small piece. The six baguettes are set at an angle, which is what gives the snowflake its turning, pinwheel look.

Can I shower or sleep in a solid gold necklace?
A quick shower will not hurt solid 14K gold: it does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water. We still suggest taking a fine chain off to sleep, because a chain can kink or knot against a pillow over time. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold, so soak it now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry it with a soft cloth to keep the diamonds bright.

Can I wear it every day?
Yes. Solid 14K white gold does not tarnish and has no plating to wear through, and because the motif is fixed into the chain there is no bail to rub or wear thin — usually the first thing to go on a small pendant. Take it off for the gym, the pool and lotions, and check the clasp now and then as you would with any fine chain.

Is it too small to notice?
That depends what you want from it. It is not a piece that announces itself across a room — at 0.08 carat nothing is. Up close it is clearly a real diamond snowflake rather than a dot of sparkle, and sitting fixed at the centre of the throat it catches the light every time you move. If you want something with more presence, look at the larger cluster pendants in the same collection.

What length necklace should I get?
If you are unsure, choose 18 inches — it sits just below the collarbone and works on almost everyone and with almost every neckline. 16 inches sits at the collarbone (the most popular length for dainty pendants and for layering as the top chain). 14 inches is a choker fit. 20 inches drops a few inches lower and is the right choice over a crew neck or as the bottom layer in a stack. This piece comes in 14, 16, 18 and 20 inches. If you are between lengths, go longer — a chain can always sit a little lower, and if a chain you already own comes up short, our 1, 2 and 3 inch extenders fix that in one clip.
