Description

A sapphire and natural diamond cocktail ring that wears like a small sunburst. At its heart, a row of slim baguettes with crescents of round brilliants above and below is set inside an oval frame of baguettes, so that across a room it reads as one large oval stone. Ten pointed petals, each holding tiny baguettes with a round diamond at the tip, radiate around it, and two pear-shaped blue sapphires sit at either end, lying along the finger. A split shank lined with tiny pavé carries it all in solid 14K white gold, made to order in your size.

Questions, answered

Everything people ask before they buy this rings.

Are the diamonds real, and what about the sapphires?

Every diamond is a natural mined diamond: about 0.81 carats in total, F–G colour and SI clarity, graded by the workshop in two lots of 0.50 ct and 0.31 ct. The two pear-shaped blue sapphires add about 1.03 carats, which is how the ring reaches its 1.84 carat total gem weight. The ring ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. Each ring is made by hand, so the weights can move a hair either way; the certificate is the final word. No diamond here is cubic zirconia, moissanite or lab-grown.

Is the centre one big oval diamond?

No, and we would rather say so here than have you find out with a loupe. The centre is an illusion setting: a row of slim baguettes laid side by side, with small round diamonds above and below them, all inside an oval frame of baguettes, set so closely that across a room it reads as one large oval stone. Around it, ten pointed petals each hold two or three baguettes with a round diamond at the tip, and the two sapphires sit at the ends, one toward the fingertip and one toward the knuckle.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?

Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big does it look on the hand?

It is a cocktail ring, and it is meant to be seen. Worn, it runs along the finger: from one sapphire to the other it is about a third longer than the finger is wide, while across the finger the petals sit at roughly the finger's own width. The worn photos and the 360° video show it at true scale. Exact millimetre dimensions are not published for this piece, so we will not invent them; if you want a figure before you order, ask us and we will confirm it for you.

Will it catch on things, and can I wear it every day?

It sits proud of the finger, so think of it as the ring you wear out rather than the one you garden in. Petal tips and sapphire claws are what knitwear and fine fabrics find first. Take it off for the gym, cleaning, the pool and anything that needs gloves. Solid 14K gold does not tarnish; to keep the stones bright, soak it in warm water with a drop of dish soap and brush gently under the head with a soft toothbrush. Have the claws checked once a year — with this many stones, it is worth the five minutes.

Can I wear a solid gold ring in the shower and to sleep?

Yes to both. Solid 14K gold does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water or sweat, so this is the ring you put on and forget about. Soap film and lotion will dull any gold over time — a soak in warm water with a drop of dish soap, then a soft cloth, brings the shine back in a minute. Take it off for the gym and heavy lifting: gold is a soft metal, and a ring is the piece that takes the knocks.

How do I get the size right, and can I return it?

Each ring is made to your size after you order, so it is final sale — returns and exchanges are not accepted. Measure before you order: wrap a strip of paper round the base of the finger, mark where it meets, measure the length in millimetres and match it to a US size chart (about 52 mm is a 6, 54 mm a 7). Measure at the end of the day when your hands are at their largest, and size to the knuckle if yours is wide. A head this size wants a ring that sits snugly, so it is worth measuring twice. If it arrives damaged or not as ordered, contact us within 7 days and we will put it right.

What do F–G colour and SI clarity mean here?

F–G sits near the top of the colour scale — colourless to the eye — so the diamonds look icy white against the white gold and the deep blue of the sapphires. SI (slightly included) means the stones have small natural inclusions that a grader finds under 10x magnification. On small baguettes and round accents set this closely, they are very rarely something you notice with the ring on your hand; what you see is the sparkle of the whole starburst.

How long does this rings take to arrive?

This rings is made to order in your size, so please allow 2 to 3 weeks for us to finish it before it ships. Once it ships, free standard USPS shipping takes 2 to 4 business days in the US, and you get a tracking number by email the moment it is on its way. Because it is made for you, we cannot change the size after checkout, so take one more look at your size before you pay. It arrives in our signature gift box with a suede pouch. We ship worldwide; international delivery runs 5 to 14 business days depending on the destination, and any customs duties are the buyer's.

How do I find my ring size at home?

Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, measure the length in millimetres and match it to a US ring size chart: 49 mm is a size 5, 52 mm a 6, 54 mm a 7, 57 mm an 8, 59 mm a 9. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are largest, and make sure the strip slides over the knuckle. If you already own a ring that fits, measure its inside diameter instead — 16.5 mm is a 6, 17.3 mm a 7, 18.2 mm an 8. Between sizes? Go up — a slightly loose ring is wearable, a tight one is not.
