Are these real diamonds?
Yes - every stone is a natural mined diamond, and the pair ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. There is 0.15 carat of diamond in total across the pair, graded E-F colour and SI clarity: near-colourless stones with tiny inclusions you would need a loupe and some patience to find. Nothing here is lab-grown and nothing is a simulant.

How does a huggie hoop fasten?
It is hinged. The band swings open on a small hinge, you pass the post through your piercing, and it clicks shut against a catch. There is no separate back to drop behind the sink, which makes a huggie one of the most secure earrings you can own - and one of the few you can put in without a mirror.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big are they?
Small and close-fitting: about 12 mm across the outside, roughly the size of a small shirt button, with a slim diamond face of about 2 mm. A huggie is meant to hug the lobe rather than swing below it, so on the ear it reads as a fine line of light from the piercing down round the edge of the lobe. Made by hand, so each pair can vary very slightly.

How are the diamonds set?
In a single row of small round brilliant diamonds, set shoulder to shoulder in fine shared claws along the front face of the hoop, from the hinge round to the bottom. Sharing the claws keeps the metal between the stones to a minimum, so the front reads as one continuous line of sparkle. The inside of the band is plain polished white gold, smooth against the skin.

Can I shower or sleep in solid gold hoops?
Showering is fine - solid 14K gold does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water or sweat. Sleeping is fine too, which is one of the quiet advantages of a huggie: the hinge clicks shut, nothing dangles, and there is no butterfly back to work its way off against a pillow. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold, so soak them now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth - and pay attention to the hinge and the inside of the band, where residue collects out of sight.

Will they feel heavy or pull on my piercing?
No. A slim huggie carries very little gold, and because it sits against the lobe instead of hanging from it, its weight is not pulling downward on the piercing - the usual cause of a stretched hole. Most people forget they are wearing them, which is the point.

Can I wear them every day?
That is what they are for. Solid 14K white gold does not tarnish and has no plating to wear through, the hinge clicks shut so nothing works loose, and there is nothing dangling to catch on a scarf or a collar. Give them a gentle wash in warm, mildly soapy water now and then, paying attention to the hinge and the back of the band, where lotion and hairspray like to hide.

Are these earrings good for sensitive ears?
Yes. The part that touches your piercing is sterling silver (under 18K gold vermeil), 316L surgical steel, or solid 14K gold depending on the tier you choose — all three are nickel-safe and the same metals piercing studios use for fresh piercings. The reaction most people blame on "gold earrings" is actually nickel or brass in cheap posts, and there is none in ours. If your ears are very reactive, choose the 18K gold vermeil or solid gold option and wipe the posts with a little rubbing alcohol before the first wear.
