Is the centre stone a real diamond?
Yes — a natural mined marquise diamond, with natural round diamonds along the band: 0.25 carat in all, E–F colour, VS to SI clarity. The ring ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. Nothing here is cubic zirconia, moissanite or lab-grown.

Why a marquise?
A marquise is a long, narrow diamond with a point at each end. Set lengthwise, with the points toward the knuckle and the fingertip, it draws the eye along the finger and makes the hand look longer and slimmer. Its long shape also shows more surface than a round diamond of the same weight, so it reads bigger than its carat.

Are these 18K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 18K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 18K is 75% pure gold, where the 14K most fine jewellery is made from is 58.5%, so this is a step up in purity and in price. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The one trade-off for the extra gold is that 18K is slightly softer than 14K, so it marks a little more easily. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

Can this be an engagement ring?
Yes — it is a classic solitaire shape on a slim band, light enough to wear every day. The pavé runs across the top of the band, so it also sits neatly next to a plain or diamond wedding band if you like to stack.

Why 18K gold?
18K is 75% pure gold, a step up from the 58.5% of 14K, which most fine jewellery is made from. It has a richer feel and is naturally hypoallergenic. It is also a touch softer, which is why the claws on this ring are worth having checked every couple of years.

Can I wear a solid gold ring in the shower and to sleep?
Yes to both. Solid 18K gold does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water or sweat, so this is the ring you put on and forget about. Soap film and lotion will dull any gold over time — a soak in warm water with a drop of dish soap, then a soft cloth, brings the shine back in a minute. 18K is a little softer than 14K, so take it off for the gym and heavy lifting: a ring is the piece that takes the knocks.

How do I get the size right, and can I return it?
Each ring is made to your size after you order, so it is final sale — returns and exchanges are not accepted. Measure before you order: wrap a strip of paper round the base of the finger, mark where it meets, measure the length in millimetres and match it to a US size chart (about 52 mm is a 6, 54 mm a 7, 57 mm an 8). We make US sizes 5 to 12. If it arrives damaged or not as ordered, contact us within 7 days and we will put it right.

Can I wear it every day?
Yes, with the ordinary care any solitaire wants. The marquise is held by claws that guard its two points, which are the most delicate part of the stone. Take the ring off for the gym, for cleaning and for the pool, and wash it now and then in warm water with a drop of dish soap and a soft brush.

How do I find my ring size at home?
Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, measure the length in millimetres and match it to a US ring size chart: 49 mm is a size 5, 52 mm a 6, 54 mm a 7, 57 mm an 8, 59 mm a 9. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are largest, and make sure the strip slides over the knuckle. If you already own a ring that fits, measure its inside diameter instead — 16.5 mm is a 6, 17.3 mm a 7, 18.2 mm an 8. Between sizes? Go up — a slightly loose ring is wearable, a tight one is not.
