Description

Angular open hoops in 14K solid rose gold, each traced down its front edge with a single row of natural round diamonds. Turn your head and the sides come into view: a lattice of open triangles cut clean through the gold, so the earring reads as a piece of small architecture rather than a solid slab of metal. From the front, a fine line of light; from the side, the geometry. 0.41 carats in all, IGI certified.

Are these real diamonds?
Yes - every stone is a natural mined diamond, and the pair ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. There is 0.41 carat of diamond in total across the pair, graded E-F colour and SI clarity: near-colourless stones with tiny inclusions you would need a loupe and some patience to find. Nothing here is lab-grown and nothing is a simulant.

How do they fasten?
With a straight post and a push-on butterfly back, the most familiar fitting there is. The post goes through your piercing at the top of the earring, the butterfly slides on behind the lobe, and the open angular hoop hangs from there. There is no hinge to line up and no catch to fiddle with - if you can put in a stud, you can put these in.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big are they?
About 24 mm from the piercing to the lowest point - roughly an inch - so they sit at the lobe and drop just below it rather than swinging at the jaw. From the front they read as a slim, straight line of diamonds; turn your head and the openwork side comes into view. Made by hand, so each pair can vary very slightly.

What is the openwork on the side?
Each side of the earring is cut right through into a lattice of open triangles, with thin polished rose-gold bars between them. It is the part that makes the design: the diamonds trace the front edge, and the triangles let your skin and hair show through the gold, so the shape reads as architecture rather than a solid slab of metal.

Can I shower or sleep in them?
Showering is fine — solid 14K gold does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water or sweat. These sit on a post with a push-on back, so for sleeping either check the back is pushed firmly up to the lobe or take them out overnight, since a hanging shape can catch on a pillow. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold: soak them now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth.

Will they feel heavy?
Less than they look. The open triangles take out most of the gold a solid earring of this size would carry, and the butterfly back sits flat behind the lobe to keep the post steady. They hang from a normal piercing without dragging it down, which is the usual cause of a stretched hole.

Can I wear them every day?
Yes. Solid 14K rose gold takes its warm colour from the copper in the alloy, not from a coating, so there is no plating to wear through and it does not tarnish. Take them out to sleep - an angular hoop can catch on a pillow - and give them a gentle wash in warm, mildly soapy water now and then, working a soft brush through the triangles where lotion and hairspray like to settle.

Are these earrings good for sensitive ears?
Yes. The part that touches your piercing is sterling silver (under 18K gold vermeil), 316L surgical steel, or solid 14K gold depending on the tier you choose — all three are nickel-safe and the same metals piercing studios use for fresh piercings. The reaction most people blame on "gold earrings" is actually nickel or brass in cheap posts, and there is none in ours. If your ears are very reactive, choose the 18K gold vermeil or solid gold option and wipe the posts with a little rubbing alcohol before the first wear.
