Very pretty necklace. Added my family’s birth flowers.

The necklace arrived and was beautiful - as described in the product image. I was so excited to wear it - I included a flower for each of my kids. Unfortunately, the first time I wore it, it fell off my neck some time while I was at dinner. When I got home, I realized it was gone. I’m devastated that it fell off and was lost after only one wear. I don’t know if the chain broke or if the clasp didn’t close completely. Such a bummer.

What is my birth flower?

January carnation, February violet, March daffodil, April daisy, May lily of the valley, June rose, July larkspur (or water lily), August gladiolus (or poppy), September aster (or morning glory), October marigold (or cosmos), November chrysanthemum, December narcissus (or holly). Each month has a primary flower and a secondary one; ours are engraved with the primary unless you ask for the other.

Birth flower or birthstone — which should I choose?

Birth flower if you want something quieter and more unusual; birthstone if you want colour. A birth flower is engraved or sculpted in gold, so the whole piece stays one metal and layers with everything. A birthstone adds a point of colour that people notice and ask about. Several of our rings do both — the month's flower with the month's stone set beside it — for the woman who wants the full answer.

Is this necklace real gold?

Yes — it is 18K gold vermeil: a thick layer of real 18K gold bonded over solid 925 sterling silver. Vermeil is an FTC-defined standard, not a marketing word, and ours uses a gold layer at least five times thicker than standard plating. Under it is sterling silver, which is hypoallergenic and worth something on its own. You can also choose the Prestige Gold option (the same 18K gold over a brass core) if you want the look for less and wear it less often. Every vermeil piece is covered by our 2-year warranty.

Can I put my kids' birth flowers on one necklace?

Yes — the family birth flower necklace carries one bloom per person along a single chain, in the order you give us. Two, three, four flowers read as a garden rather than a list, which is the point: nobody but you needs to know which month is which.

Is the flower engraved or raised?

Engraved, by hand, into the gold on most of our designs — fine lines cut into a disc or a signet face, then the 18K gold goes over the top so the engraving is part of the piece. The drop and stud earrings use a sculpted, slightly raised bloom instead. Both show the flower clearly at arm's length and read as texture from across a room.

Can I shower or sleep in my gold vermeil necklace?

Sleep in it, yes. Shower in it, no. Water, sweat, perfume and hairspray are what age gold vermeil fastest, so the rule is simple: jewelry goes on last and comes off before the shower, the pool or the gym. Put it on after lotion and perfume have dried. When it is off, keep it in the pouch it came in — the pouch is anti-tarnish, not decoration. To clean it, a soft dry cloth; never jewelry dip or anything abrasive, which strips the gold. Treated this way, vermeil keeps its colour for years, which is exactly why we can put a 2-year warranty behind it.

Does my birth flower depend on where I was born?

Slightly. The list above is the American one, which is the most widely used; the British list swaps a few months (February primrose, May hawthorn, October calendula). If you grew up with a different flower for your month and it means more to you, tell us which and we engrave that one.

Is birth flower jewelry a good gift for a new mom?

Yes — especially the baby's flower rather than her own. It is a way to carry a birth month without a stone, a date or a name on show, which suits women who do not want jewelry that announces itself. Add the birthstone version later for the second child. It arrives in our gift box with a suede pouch.

How long does a personalized necklace take to arrive?

Most personalized orders arrive within 5 to 9 business days in the US: 3 to 5 business days for us to make it, then free USPS shipping that takes 2 to 4 days. Every personalized piece is made to order in our Miami studio — your name, stone or engraving is added before the gold goes on, so it is part of the piece, not a sticker on top. You get a tracking number the moment it ships. Because it is made for you, we cannot change spelling or size after checkout, so take one more look at the personalization before you pay. We ship worldwide; international delivery is 5 to 14 business days depending on the country, and duties are the buyer's.

What length necklace should I get?

If you are unsure, choose 18 inches — it sits just below the collarbone and works on almost everyone and with almost every neckline. 16 inches sits at the collarbone (the most popular length for dainty pendants and for layering as the top chain). 14 inches is a choker fit. 20 inches drops a few inches lower and is the right choice over a crew neck or as the bottom layer in a stack. This piece comes in 14, 16, 18 and 20 inches. If you are between lengths, go longer — a chain can always sit a little lower, and if a chain you already own comes up short, our 1, 2 and 3 inch extenders fix that in one clip.
