This evil eye pendant necklace in 14K solid white gold draws the eye as an open almond outline of natural diamonds, with a round blue sapphire at its centre and a pear-shaped diamond hanging below like a single tear. The middle is open, so your skin shows through and the piece stays light on the neck, while the sapphire and the swinging drop do the talking. About 18 mm across, it is a small everyday talisman rather than a statement piece.

Are the diamonds real?
Yes. They are natural, mined diamonds, 0.24 carat in total, E–F colour and SI clarity: a single row of round brilliants traces the outline of the eye, and a pear-shaped diamond hangs below it. The centre is a 0.51 carat round blue sapphire, which brings the total to 0.75 carat. The necklace ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate.

What does the evil eye mean?
It is one of the oldest protective symbols there is: an eye that looks back at envy and bad luck so you do not have to. In Turkey and around the Mediterranean it is traditionally blue, which is why the centre here is a deep blue sapphire. Wear it for the meaning or simply because you like it; it does not ask which.

Is it 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, nothing underneath, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the kind of piece you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing it ever needs is the occasional polish.

How big is it?
About 1.8 cm across the eye, roughly three quarters of an inch, and about 1.7 cm from the bail to the tip of the pear drop. On the neck it reads as a small, clear eye shape rather than a statement piece. Each one is made by hand, so sizes vary very slightly.

Does the pear diamond move?
Yes, a little, and that is the point. The pear hangs from its own small ring at the bottom of the eye, so it swings as you move and catches the light. The eye itself hangs from a bail at the top centre and stays level on the chain.

Can I shower or sleep in a solid gold necklace?
A quick shower will not hurt solid 14K gold: it does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water. We still suggest taking a fine chain off to sleep, because a chain can kink or knot against a pillow over time. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold, so soak it now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry it with a soft cloth to keep the diamonds bright.

Can I wear it every day?
Yes. Solid 14K white gold does not tarnish, and sapphire is the hardest gemstone after diamond. The sapphire and the pear sit in smooth bezels with nothing to snag on a sweater; the small diamonds round the eye are set in a fine row, so take it off for the gym, the pool, gardening and lotions, and check the clasp now and then as you would with any fine chain.

Which chain length should I choose?
On a 16 inch chain the eye sits just below the collarbones; on 18 inches it lands on the upper breastbone, which is how it is worn in the photographs and suits an open collar; 20 inches takes it lower, for higher necklines. 14 inches sits close to the base of the throat.

What length necklace should I get?
If you are unsure, choose 18 inches — it sits just below the collarbone and works on almost everyone and with almost every neckline. 16 inches sits at the collarbone (the most popular length for dainty pendants and for layering as the top chain). 14 inches is a choker fit. 20 inches drops a few inches lower and is the right choice over a crew neck or as the bottom layer in a stack. This piece comes in 14, 16, 18 and 20 inches. If you are between lengths, go longer — a chain can always sit a little lower, and if a chain you already own comes up short, our 1, 2 and 3 inch extenders fix that in one clip.
