Description

An oval emerald framed by a halo of natural diamonds sits at the front, and eight round emeralds are set along the chain, four on each side, so the green fans out across the collarbones. It reads as one fine, even line of colour with a bright point at the centre — refined enough for every day, special enough for an evening. Solid 14K yellow gold, 1.39 carats in all.

Care

Emerald is softer than diamond, so treat it gently: store the necklace on its own, take it off for the gym, swimming and cleaning, and put it on after perfume, lotion and hairspray. Wipe it with a soft cloth; a little mild soap in lukewarm water is fine, but never an ultrasonic or steam cleaner.

Are the stones real?
Yes. The halo around the centre stone is natural mined diamonds, 0.05 carat in total, E–F colour and SI clarity, and the green stones are emeralds, 1.34 carat together — 1.39 carat in all. The necklace ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate.

How is it made?
An oval emerald sits at the centre inside a halo of small round diamonds, and eight round emeralds are set along the chain, four on each side, each one in its own four-claw setting. The chain runs straight through every station, so the stones fall evenly around the neck.

Is it 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, nothing underneath, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the kind of piece you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing it ever needs is the occasional polish.

How big is it?
The centre halo is small — under a centimetre tall — and the station emeralds are a few millimetres each. Worn, the stones spread across the front of the neck and collarbones, a fine line of green rather than one big pendant. Each piece is made by hand, so sizes vary very slightly.

Will the centre stay in front?
Mostly, yes. The stations are spaced evenly on both sides, so the weight balances and the halo settles at the front. Like any fine chain it can drift a little as you move; a light touch puts it back.

Can I shower or sleep in a solid gold necklace?
A quick shower will not hurt solid 14K gold: it does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water. We still suggest taking a fine chain off to sleep, because a chain can kink or knot against a pillow over time. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold, so soak it now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry it with a soft cloth to keep the diamonds bright.

Can I wear it every day?
With some care. Solid 14K gold does not tarnish and has no plating to wear through, but emerald is softer and more brittle than diamond or sapphire. Take it off for the gym, the pool, cleaning and lotions, never use an ultrasonic cleaner on it, and store it on its own.

Which chain length should I choose?
On a 16 inch chain the halo sits just below the hollow of the throat with the emeralds fanning across the collarbones, which is how it is worn in the photographs. 14 inches sits closer, like a collar; 18 inches drops the centre onto the breastbone for an open neckline; 20 inches is for higher necklines.

What length necklace should I get?
If you are unsure, choose 18 inches — it sits just below the collarbone and works on almost everyone and with almost every neckline. 16 inches sits at the collarbone (the most popular length for dainty pendants and for layering as the top chain). 14 inches is a choker fit. 20 inches drops a few inches lower and is the right choice over a crew neck or as the bottom layer in a stack. This piece comes in 14, 16, 18 and 20 inches. If you are between lengths, go longer — a chain can always sit a little lower, and if a chain you already own comes up short, our 1, 2 and 3 inch extenders fix that in one clip.
