Two fine lines of natural diamonds fall straight from the ear and end in an oval emerald ringed with diamonds, with a small leaf of marquise diamonds at its side. They move when you do and frame the jaw with a slim line of light and a deep point of green — made for evenings, easy enough for the day. Solid 18K white gold, 2.66 carats in all.

Are the stones real?
Yes. The diamonds are natural mined diamonds, 1.37 carats across the pair, F–G colour and SI clarity, and the two oval centre stones are emeralds, 1.29 carats together — 2.66 carats in all. The earrings ship with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate.

How are they made?
Two fine lines of round claw-set diamonds run straight down from the lever-back, side by side, and end in an oval emerald framed by a halo of round diamonds. A small leaf of three marquise diamonds sits at one side of the halo, so each earring catches the light from the side as well as the front.

Are these 18K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 18K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 18K is 75% pure gold, where the 14K most fine jewellery is made from is 58.5%, so this is a step up in purity and in price. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The one trade-off for the extra gold is that 18K is slightly softer than 14K, so it marks a little more easily. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How long are they?
About three and a half centimetres from the top of the clip to the bottom of the emerald halo — long enough to move and frame the jaw, slim enough to wear with your hair up or down. Each pair is handmade, so lengths vary very slightly.

How do they close?
With a hinged lever-back: the post goes through the piercing and the hinged loop clicks shut behind the lobe. It holds a long drop securely and is easy to open with one hand.

Can I wear solid gold drop earrings in the shower or to sleep?
A quick shower will not hurt solid 18K gold: it does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water. We still suggest taking drop earrings off to sleep, because a hanging piece can catch on pillows and bend the lever-back over time. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold, so soak them now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth to keep every facet bright.

Are they heavy?
No. The diamond lines are slim and the halo is compact, so the weight hangs straight down and sits comfortably through an evening. If your lobes are sensitive, a pair of clear silicone discs behind the lobe spreads the load.

How should I look after the emeralds?

Are these earrings good for sensitive ears?
Yes. The part that touches your piercing is sterling silver (under 18K gold vermeil), 316L surgical steel, or solid 14K gold depending on the tier you choose — all three are nickel-safe and the same metals piercing studios use for fresh piercings. The reaction most people blame on "gold earrings" is actually nickel or brass in cheap posts, and there is none in ours. If your ears are very reactive, choose the 18K gold vermeil or solid gold option and wipe the posts with a little rubbing alcohol before the first wear.
