Description

Ladder hoop earrings in 14K solid rose gold, with natural diamonds set rung by rung down the front of each hoop: a crisp baguette in a slim rectangular frame beside a round brilliant in a smooth gold bezel, about ten rungs deep. Worn, they read as a slim column of square and round sparkle that starts in front of the lobe and hangs just below it; turn your head and the open double-wire back comes into view. 0.90 carats in all, IGI certified.

Are these real diamonds?
Yes - every stone is a natural mined diamond, and the pair comes with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. There is 0.90 carat of diamond across the pair, in two cuts: round brilliants and slim rectangular baguettes, graded F-G colour and SI clarity - near-colourless, with inclusions you would need a loupe and some patience to find. Nothing here is lab-grown and nothing is a simulant.

How do they fasten?
A straight post at the top of the hoop goes through your piercing, and a push-on butterfly back slides on behind the lobe. That is the whole routine: no hinge to line up and no catch to snap shut, so if you can put in a stud, you can put these in. Push the back up snugly to the lobe and the hoop hangs straight.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big are they?
About 2.7 cm from the piercing to the lowest point - a little over an inch - with a front face about 7 mm wide. Worn, the top few rungs sit in front of the lobe and the rest hang just below it, so they read as a neat column of diamonds rather than a hoop swinging at the jaw. Made by hand, so each pair can vary very slightly.

What is the ladder design?
The front of each hoop is two lanes running side by side: baguettes in slim rectangular gold frames on one, round brilliants in round gold cups on the other, joined rung by rung with short polished bars - about ten rungs to a hoop. From the side of the head it reads as one tidy ladder of square and round sparkle. The back half is just two fine polished wires, which keeps the hoop light where nobody is looking anyway.

Can I shower or sleep in them?
Showering is fine — solid 14K gold does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water or sweat. These sit on a post with a push-on back, so for sleeping either check the back is pushed firmly up to the lobe or take them out overnight, since a hanging shape can catch on a pillow. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold: soak them now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth.

Will the stones catch on hair or knitwear?
Far less than claw-set stones would. Every diamond sits in a bezel - a smooth rim of gold that runs all the way round the stone - so there are no prongs to snag a jumper or a strand of hair, and the corners of the baguettes are covered rather than exposed. It is the setting you choose when you intend to wear them, not just own them.

Can I wear them every day?
Yes. Solid 14K rose gold gets its warm colour from the copper in the alloy, not from a coating, so there is no plating to wear through and nothing to tarnish. Take them out to sleep - a hoop can catch on a pillow - and now and then give them a rinse in warm, mildly soapy water with a soft brush between the rungs, where lotion and hairspray like to settle.

Are these earrings good for sensitive ears?
Yes. The part that touches your piercing is sterling silver (under 18K gold vermeil), 316L surgical steel, or solid 14K gold depending on the tier you choose — all three are nickel-safe and the same metals piercing studios use for fresh piercings. The reaction most people blame on "gold earrings" is actually nickel or brass in cheap posts, and there is none in ours. If your ears are very reactive, choose the 18K gold vermeil or solid gold option and wipe the posts with a little rubbing alcohol before the first wear.
