Description

Three rows of natural diamonds run the length of a small hinged hoop: a channel of baguettes down the centre, laid end to end like the rungs of a ladder, with a row of round brilliants pavé-set along each edge. The band is flat-faced and squared at the edges, so the whole thing reads as a solid bar of light wrapped around the lobe.

A huggie is the most wearable hoop there is. It sits close instead of swinging, the hinge clicks shut so nothing works loose, and there is no butterfly back to lose in the morning. This one carries 0.93 carat across the pair — a lot of diamond for an earring you can genuinely leave in.

Are these real diamonds?
Yes, every stone is a natural mined diamond and the pair ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. Our workshop grades them in two groups - 0.63 carat at EF colour and VS clarity, and 0.30 carat at EF colour and SI clarity - which is 0.93 carat in total across the pair: the baguettes down the centre and the round brilliants along both edges. Nothing here is lab-grown and nothing is a simulant.

What are the straight stones down the middle?
Baguettes - diamonds cut as small rectangles with straight step facets instead of the triangular facets of a brilliant. They are channel-set end to end down the centre of the band, like the rungs of a ladder, and flanked on both sides by a row of round brilliants in shared-claw pave. Three rows in all. A step cut flashes in long clean planes where a brilliant scintillates, so the hoop reads as a bright centre line with a glitter of small stones on either side of it.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How does a huggie hoop fasten?
It is hinged. The band opens on a hinge at the top, you pass the post through your piercing, and the lower half clicks shut against a small catch underneath. Nothing is loose and there is no separate back to lose, which makes a huggie one of the most secure earrings you can own - and one of the easiest to put in without a mirror.

How big are they?
About 13.5 mm across the outside - a little over half an inch, roughly the size of a shirt button. A huggie is meant to sit close: it wraps the lobe rather than swinging below it, so the diamonds sit flat against your ear and the whole thing reads as a band of light rather than a dangling hoop. Made by hand, so sizes vary very slightly.

Can I shower or sleep in solid gold hoops?
Showering is fine - solid 14K gold does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water or sweat. Sleeping is fine too, which is one of the quiet advantages of a huggie: the hinge clicks shut, nothing dangles, and there is no butterfly back to work its way off against a pillow. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold, so soak them now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth - and pay attention to the hinge and the inside of the band, where residue collects out of sight.

Will they feel heavy or pull on my piercing?
No, and the shape is the reason. Because a huggie hugs the lobe instead of hanging from it, its weight is carried against the ear rather than pulling downward, which is the usual cause of a stretched piercing. Just under a carat of diamond in a small gold band is not a lot to carry, and most people forget they have them on.

Can I wear them every day?
Yes - this is exactly what a huggie is for. Solid 14K white gold does not tarnish and has no plating to wear through, the hinge clicks shut so nothing works loose, and there is nothing dangling to catch on a scarf or a jumper. Are these earrings good for sensitive ears?
Yes. The part that touches your piercing is sterling silver (under 18K gold vermeil), 316L surgical steel, or solid 14K gold depending on the tier you choose — all three are nickel-safe and the same metals piercing studios use for fresh piercings. The reaction most people blame on "gold earrings" is actually nickel or brass in cheap posts, and there is none in ours. If your ears are very reactive, choose the 18K gold vermeil or solid gold option and wipe the posts with a little rubbing alcohol before the first wear.
