What is a promise ring?
A ring given to mark a commitment that is not (yet) an engagement — to a relationship, to a future, or to yourself. Couples give them before they are ready for the ring; parents give them to daughters; women buy them for themselves to mark a promise they made and kept. There are no rules about the stone or the cost, which is the point: it is the ring that says "I mean it" without a speech.

What finger does a promise ring go on?
Most often the ring finger of the left hand, if you are not engaged — and moved to the right hand when an engagement ring arrives. Some wear it on the right hand from the start to avoid the question. For a promise to yourself, the right-hand ring finger or the middle finger. Any finger is correct; the one that matters is the one you will see when you need the reminder.

Is this ring real gold?
Yes — it is 18K gold vermeil: a thick layer of real 18K gold bonded over solid 925 sterling silver. Vermeil is an FTC-defined standard, not a marketing word, and ours uses a gold layer at least five times thicker than standard plating. Under it is sterling silver, which is hypoallergenic and worth something on its own. You can also choose the Prestige Gold option (the same 18K gold over a brass core) if you want the look for less and wear it less often. Every vermeil piece is covered by our 2-year warranty.

What is the difference between a promise ring and an engagement ring?
Intent. An engagement ring is a proposal and a date; a promise ring is a commitment with the date left open. Design-wise, promise rings are usually smaller and simpler — a single stone, a row of baguettes, a slim band — so they do not get mistaken for the other thing, and so they stack under it later. If you are giving one, say what it means when you give it; she should not have to guess.

Is the stone a real diamond?
No — it is cubic zirconia, cut the way a diamond is cut (pear, princess, baguette, round) and set in 18K gold vermeil over sterling silver. We say so plainly because a promise ring should not come with a secret. It has the same white fire as a diamond in every light that matters, costs a fraction, and lets you put the real money into the ring that comes later.

Can I shower or sleep in my gold vermeil ring?
Sleep in it, yes. Shower in it, no. Water, sweat, perfume and hairspray are what age gold vermeil fastest, so the rule is simple: jewelry goes on last and comes off before the shower, the pool or the gym. Put it on after lotion and perfume have dried. When it is off, keep it in the pouch it came in — the pouch is anti-tarnish, not decoration. To clean it, a soft dry cloth; never jewelry dip or anything abrasive, which strips the gold. Treated this way, vermeil keeps its colour for years, which is exactly why we can put a 2-year warranty behind it.

Can you buy a promise ring for yourself?
Yes, and more women do than you would think. A promise to finish the degree, to stay sober, to leave, to never again make yourself smaller — a ring you see every time you reach for something is a better reminder than a note on the fridge. Engagement architecture, bought by the woman wearing it. Nobody has to propose.

How do you give a promise ring?
Simply. A promise ring does not need a knee, a photographer or a restaurant — it needs a sentence about what you are promising, said somewhere the two of you will remember. In the car, on the couch, at the end of a day that was just yours. Put it on her finger yourself. It arrives in our gift box with a suede pouch, so the only thing you have to prepare is the sentence.

How fast does this ring ship?
Ready-to-ship pieces leave our Miami studio within 24 hours on business days, with free standard USPS shipping on every US order — typically 2 to 4 business days door to door. Expedited shipping is available at checkout for ready-to-ship items. You get a tracking number by email when it is on its way, and it arrives in our signature gift box with a suede pouch, so if it is a gift you are already done. We ship worldwide; international delivery runs 5 to 14 business days depending on the destination, and any customs duties are the buyer's.

How do I find my ring size at home?
Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, measure the length in millimetres and match it to a US ring size chart: 49 mm is a size 5, 52 mm a 6, 54 mm a 7, 57 mm an 8, 59 mm a 9. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are largest, and make sure the strip slides over the knuckle. If you already own a ring that fits, measure its inside diameter instead — 16.5 mm is a 6, 17.3 mm a 7, 18.2 mm an 8. This ring comes in US 3 to 11, in half sizes. Between sizes? Go up — a slightly loose ring is wearable, a tight one is not.
