A cluster of baguette and princess-cut natural diamonds set inside a halo, so the centre of this Art Deco pendant reads as one bright emerald-cut stone. The octagonal frame of 14K white gold is edged with twenty-four tiny round diamonds and finished with star-cut corner prongs, and it hangs from a slim tapered bail on a fine cable chain you can order in four lengths.

Are these real diamonds?
Yes, every stone is a natural diamond, and the necklace comes with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. The centre cluster is 0.18 carat of baguette and princess cuts, E–F colour and VS–SI clarity; the halo around it adds 0.08 carat of tiny round brilliants, E–F colour and SI clarity. Together they come to 0.26 carat.

Why does the centre look like one big diamond?
That is an illusion cluster, an Art Deco technique. Two princess-cut diamonds sit one above the other in the middle, with a long baguette down each side and a short baguette across the top and bottom. Set tightly together in polished white gold, they read as a single emerald-cut stone from normal distance. The carat weight on this page is the real weight of the diamonds, not the size the cluster appears.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big is the pendant?
The pendant face is about 7 mm wide and 9.5 mm tall, roughly 14 mm from the top of the bail to the bottom. It is a dainty everyday pendant rather than a statement piece: big enough to catch the light, small enough to layer or wear under a collar. Each one is made by hand, so sizes vary very slightly.

Are the tiny halo diamonds secure?
Yes. The small round diamonds are bead-set: the setter raises tiny beads of gold over the edge of each stone and burnishes them down, which is how fine jewellery has held melee for a century. They sit low in the metal rather than perched on top, so there is very little for a jumper or a seatbelt to catch. Have the setting checked every couple of years, as you would with any stone-set piece.

Can I shower or sleep in a solid gold necklace?
A quick shower will not hurt solid 14K gold: it does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water. We still suggest taking a fine chain off to sleep, because a chain can kink or knot against a pillow over time. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold, so soak it now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry it with a soft cloth to keep the diamonds bright.

Can I wear it every day?
Yes. Solid 14K white gold does not tarnish and has no plating to wear through, and the diamonds are set down into the metal rather than perched on top, so there is little to catch. Take it off for the gym, the pool and lotions, and check the clasp now and then as you would with any fine chain.

Does it match the baguette diamond earrings?
It does. The drop earrings in the same collection use the same octagonal outline and the same baguette illusion setting, so the two read as a set without looking matched for the sake of it. Worn together they are an easy answer to a dress code; worn apart neither looks lonely.

How long does this necklace take to arrive?

What length necklace should I get?
If you are unsure, choose 18 inches — it sits just below the collarbone and works on almost everyone and with almost every neckline. 16 inches sits at the collarbone (the most popular length for dainty pendants and for layering as the top chain). 14 inches is a choker fit. 20 inches drops a few inches lower and is the right choice over a crew neck or as the bottom layer in a stack. This piece comes in 14, 16, 18 and 20 inches. If you are between lengths, go longer — a chain can always sit a little lower, and if a chain you already own comes up short, our 1, 2 and 3 inch extenders fix that in one clip.
