Description

These heart stud earrings set 0.34 carats of natural diamonds, one round brilliant per ear, in 14K solid yellow gold. Each softly puffed, mirror-polished heart is divided into four domed panels by a fine cross-shaped groove, and the diamond sits right where the grooves meet, held by the tapering points of the gold rather than by prongs - nothing to snag, and a single bright point of light in a sculpted little heart. EF colour, SI clarity, IGI certified, on straight posts with butterfly backs.

Every diamond in our fine jewelry is natural. Each one was formed deep within the earth, most more than a billion years ago, long before it was cut, polished and set in gold.

Many pieces that look like ours are made with lab-grown diamonds. Ours are not. Every piece in our fine jewelry collection is graded by the International Gemological Institute (IGI) and ships with its own certificate, so you never have to take our word for it.

Because each piece is crafted by master goldsmiths in Istanbul and comes directly to you, with no distributors or retail markups in between, we can offer natural diamonds at prices you would expect to pay for lab-grown.

Are these real diamonds?
Yes. Each heart holds one natural mined round brilliant diamond - 0.34 carats in total across the pair, graded EF colour and SI clarity: colourless to the eye, with inclusions that only a jeweller's loupe will gossip about. The pair ships with an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate. Nothing here is lab-grown and nothing is a simulant.

How is the diamond held in place?
Without prongs. The polished face of the heart is divided into four softly domed panels by a fine cross-shaped groove, and the diamond sits exactly where the grooves meet, gripped by the tapering inner points of the four panels. The gold seems to fold around the stone, and there is nothing sticking up to catch on hair, scarves or a favourite sweater.

Are these 14K solid gold all the way through?
Yes — solid 14K gold, no plating, no base metal, nothing to wear off. 14K means 58.5% pure gold alloyed for strength, which is the standard for fine jewelry you wear daily. It is naturally hypoallergenic, it will not tarnish, and it is the one tier in our range you can hand down without a second thought. The only thing that ever needs attention is the occasional polish.

How big are they?
Each heart is about 8 mm across - roughly a third of an inch, a little smaller than a shirt button - and the diamond in its centre is about 3.5 mm. On most ears the heart sits in the middle of the lobe with skin showing all around it: easy to notice, never shouting. Each pair is made by hand, so the size can vary very slightly.

What kind of back do they have?
A straight post with a push-on butterfly back, the fitting most people already use for studs: quick to put in, nothing to unscrew. Push the butterfly all the way up to the lobe so the heart sits flat and stays upright. If you would rather have screw backs for peace of mind, message us before you order and we will ask the workshop.

Can I shower or sleep in solid gold studs?
Showering is fine — solid 14K gold does not tarnish, has no plating to wear through and does not react to water or sweat. For sleeping, these have push-on butterfly backs rather than screw backs, so check the back is pushed firmly up to the lobe, or take them out overnight if you move about a lot. Soap film, lotion and hairspray dull any gold: soak them now and then in warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth. Pay attention to the back of the cluster, where residue collects.

Is a heart too sweet to wear every day?
Not this one. The heart is small, sculpted and mirror-polished rather than flat and cute, so it reads as a clean piece of gold with one bright point of light in the middle - closer to a well-cut stud than a valentine. It looks as at home under a blazer collar as it does with a T-shirt, and nobody will mistake it for costume jewellery.

Can I wear them every day?
That is what they are for. The setting is solid gold with no fine wires to bend, so it stands up well to office, travel and dinner, repeat. Take them out for the gym, the pool and cleaning products, check now and then that the butterflies still grip firmly, and they will quietly become the earrings you forget you are wearing.

How long does this earring take to arrive?

Once it ships, free standard USPS shipping takes 2 to 4 business days in the US, and you get a tracking number by email the moment it is on its way. Are these earrings good for sensitive ears?
Yes. The part that touches your piercing is sterling silver (under 18K gold vermeil), 316L surgical steel, or solid 14K gold depending on the tier you choose — all three are nickel-safe and the same metals piercing studios use for fresh piercings. The reaction most people blame on "gold earrings" is actually nickel or brass in cheap posts, and there is none in ours. If your ears are very reactive, choose the 18K gold vermeil or solid gold option and wipe the posts with a little rubbing alcohol before the first wear.
