Direction, mostly — the North Star as the thing you navigate by. It's also read as guidance, hope, or someone you've lost, depending on who's wearing it. The appeal is that it carries meaning without committing to a specific one, which is why it works as a gift when you don't know someone's beliefs.

A five-pointed star is decorative and carries no religious weight. The Star of David is six-pointed, formed from two interlocking triangles, and is a specifically Jewish symbol — it isn't a design variation. We make both; they're not interchangeable and shouldn't be treated as such when you're choosing a gift.

It's one of the better pendants for it. A small star is compact and asymmetric enough not to compete with a second pendant. Put the star at 16 inches and something plainer at 18 or 20. A moon-and-star pair on one chain already reads as a layered look on its own.

It's the one to choose when you don't know someone's taste well — no religion, no romantic implication, no name to spell wrong. For a graduation or a new job it reads as direction. For someone grieving, it reads as the person they're thinking about, which is why it gets given at funerals more than people realise.

16 or 18 inches for a single star. Star pendants tend to be small, and at 20 inches a dainty one disappears into a neckline. Use 14 or 16 as the top layer when you're stacking chains.

Not quickly. Ours is 3.0 microns of gold over solid sterling silver, against an industry standard of 0.2 and typical plating at 0.5. Pavé settings need a little more care — dust and cream collect around the stones, and a soft dry brush lifts it out before it dulls the sparkle.
